Year of the Jew: Secrets of the Hebrew Calendar

"This month is for you" (Shemot 12:2)--it is given over to you.

Rabbi Pinechas and Rabbi Chizkiya said in the name of Rabbi Simon: "All of the ministering angels assemble before the Holy One, Blessed be He, and ask Him:
"'Master of the Universe, when is Rosh Hashana?'
"He responds: 'You ask Me? You and I must ask the court down below!'"

Rabbi Crispa said in the name of Rabbi Yochanan: "Up until now, 'These are Lord's festivals' (Vayikra 23:2), but from now on, 'that you will proclaim them' (ibid.)--if you proclaim them, they are my festivals; but if you do not proclaim them, they are not my festivals."
                                --Pesiketa of Rav Kahana 5:13
